American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C.

Summer Intern: Asian Studies

The Asian Studies internship will focus primarily on Asian security initiatives and U.S. strategy in the region. An intern will work under AEI scholars Dan Blumenthal and Michael Mazza focusing on China, Japan, South Korea, North Korea, and Southeast Asia. The major responsibility of department interns is conducting research for short- and long-term projects focusing on defense and security issues in the Asia Pacific, including China’s military modernization, American alliances in Asia, and other issues pertaining to East Asian affairs.


Summer Intern: Demographics and Political Economy

Resident Scholar Nicholas Eberstadt focuses on global demographic trends and economic development, with a current emphasis on China, India, and other developing nations. He also researches North Korea, poverty in the United States, foreign aid, and global health and mortality (especially HIV/AIDS and Alzheimer’s). Interns will do quantitative analysis, background research, fact-checking, and editing for articles and ongoing projects.

Foundation for Defense of Democracies in Washington, D.C.

Spring 2018 East Asia Research Internship

FDD is seeking a full-time or part-time intern for the fall to focus on developments in East Asia, particularly North Korea. The intern will work closely with former U.S. government official and FDD senior fellow Anthony Ruggiero to assist with research on North Korea's nuclear and missile programs/proliferation; the relationships between China, South Korea, and Japan; and emerging issues such as China's aggressive actions in the South China Sea and East China Sea. Projects may include research on North Korea's strategic programs and efforts to evade sanctions, as well as the effectiveness of sanctions as a foreign policy tool to address conflicts in the region.

Critical English Teaching Intern

The Dunhuang Foundation is looking for current undergraduate students to intern as Critical English Teachers at the Mogao Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Dunhuang, China, from June 16 – August 11, 2018. Critical English Teachers will work with English-speaking guides and staff members at the Dunhuang Academy to improve their functional language needs.
